Melody Maker: July 24, 1999

Posted on .

Straight after university I joined Melody Maker as staff writer and it’s hard to believe, now, quite how many words I used to bang out on a weekly basis. I’m just flicking through the July 24, 1999 issue and it’s ridiculous.

It’s got me playing darts with Dope Smugglaz in the pub round the corner from the old Melody Maker office. It’s got a page of gossip nonsense. It’s got a one-page feature about gay popstars, then another one-page interview with Cliff from Gay Dad, THEN an interview with Stuart Price (see above). Then there’s an interview with My Life Story, which I had to go to Ibiza to do, AND another page of nonsense at the back of the mag.

Good bloody grief.
